About ADUDesk

ADUDesk is a research and planning resource for California homeowners considering an accessory dwelling unit.

Why this site exists

Building an accessory dwelling unit is one of the larger financial decisions a homeowner makes, and the information needed to make it well is scattered across state law, city ordinances, contractor quotes, and lender requirements. ADUDesk exists to put the practical parts of that research in one place.

How we approach content

Regulations are set locally and change often. We write about process, trade-offs, and the questions worth asking, and we point you at the agency that can actually answer them for your parcel. Where a figure would be specific to a jurisdiction, we say so rather than publishing a number we cannot stand behind.

  • City guides carry a visible review date and source list, so you can see how current the information is.
  • We do not publish testimonials, ratings, or contractor counts we cannot substantiate.
  • We do not screen, license, or verify the professionals we introduce you to, and we say so wherever an introduction is offered.

What ADUDesk is not

ADUDesk does not provide legal, financial, or engineering advice, and nothing on this site is a determination about what may be built on your property. Your city or county planning department is the authority for your address.

Coverage

Coverage starts with California, beginning with the cities where ADU activity is highest, and expands from there.
